How to get to Opatija by ferry?

There are no direct boat or ferry connections to Opatija, but it's only 13km west of Rijeka the starting point for the Jadrolinija (coastal ship transfer company) coastal route. (check how to get to Opatija by bus for detailed information)

Local buses connect Opatija to Rijeka and there are frequent intercity buses to Pula, Rovinj and Porec where you can catch ferries to Italy.

International ferry / catamaran connections

Ancona – Zadar

Jadrolinija organizes ferry line from Italy take the Ancona – Zadar. It operates all year round and it’s a night line, it takes off from Zadar or Ancona at 22:00, and arrives to the destination at 7:00. Have a good night’s sleep and wake up in Croatia! Zadar is only 3,5 hours drive from Opatija and a 1,5 hours from Novalja.

If you’re going to the eastern Rijeka (Trsat, Piramida, Susak, Pecine, Vezica…) the bus stop is just across the street overlooking the Rieka port, and Buses are orange with Autotrolej written at the front, timetables are posted on each station and you can look & download them at the.

Venezia – Porec or Rovinj

Porec and Rovinj are tourist towns on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula. Porec and Rovinj are about 1,5 hours drive from Opatija. Commodore cruises ship company organizes daily transfers (except Mondays and Saturdays) by catamaran from Porec and Rovinj to Venice. The line operates from May to October.

Jadrolinija offers ferry and catamaran lines all over Croatian coast. The pages offer not only destination to destination search but also map search, so you don’t need to know the exact name of the port, just the island you’d like to go to. Time tables are downloadable, the pages are in English, German and Italian and you can book online.

There are catamaran lines going from Rijeka tourist port in the center of the town to all almost all Kvarner islands (Rab, Pag, Cres, Lošinj, Susak, Unije).

As of September 1st 2009 the ticketing office of Jadrolinija Rijeka is located on the premises of the Passenger terminal Rijeka, Riječki lukobran bb on the pier just go to the main port in the center and look towards the sea.
